Our goal is to support the Rosny College priorities of Quality Teaching and Learning and Wellbeing, by providing a supportive, welcoming, collaborative space for the college community where everyone can access curated, quality resources to enable learning and recreational activities which foster lifelong reading, literacy and learning. Learning
Rosny College Teacher-Librarians assist students to access, critically evaluate and use ideas and information.
They collaborate with subject teachers to develop students' skills and understanding in:
- the importance of academic integrity
- formal referencing using APA, Harvard, Chicago and MLA referencing styles
- using Turnitin (the on-line plagiarism detection tool) with pre-tertiary classes
- the effective use of the intranet and internet for research
- using our on-line databases such as JSTOR and Echo and the Rosny College library catalogue and the state-wide Libraries Tasmania catalogue
- accessing UTAS library resources through the Step Up Program (available to students and staff)
- file management, email and using ClickView (our digital video streaming system)
Resources
The Rosny College library has:
- An extensive print and non-print collection
- The intranet provides 24/7 access to on-line resources
- 116 study spaces
- 26 networked computers and 46 wireless laptops for student use
- 23 laptops and 23 internet hotspots available for 2 week student loan
- Photocopier, phone charging stations (chargers provided) and power points for laptop charging
- A catalogue which is part of the Tasmania-wide TALIS network and lists all Rosny College resources and those of other Tasmanian library collections.
Borrowing
The student ID card allows students to borrow up to fifteen items at a time.
The loan period is three weeks for books with shorter loan times for high demand items, e.g. cameras
A one-day-loan period exists for items in high demand.
